Refuse Service Operator

POSITION

Employees in this classification perform skilled work in the operation of commercial/residentialrefuse and recycling vehicles and equipment. An employee in this class is responsible for thesafe and efficient operation of equipment that requires specialized training. Assignments may involve the completion of established routes as determined by management, or work orders for special collection activities. Work hours depending upon the type of collection activity may require tasks basis work and involve various start times and shifts.

Work is subject to inspectionfor efficiency, quality of operation, and adherence to departmental policies. Work is performedunderthe supervision of the Solid Waste Crew Leaderor Foreman.

The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

• Operatesrefuseandrecyclingcollectionequipmentsafelyandefficientlyinthecollectionofcontainersof refuse,garbage,trash,andor recycling material.
• Providesservicetocommercialandresidentialcustomersasdirectedandaccordingtoestablished/assigned collection route.
• Liftsandloadsrefuse,trash, discardedequipment,andhouseholditems.
• Reportsequipmentoperationaldeficienciesforpromptrepair/maintenance.
• Performsminoradjustmentstoequipmentwithinthescopeof abilitiesasnecessary.
• Requiresregularattendancetoscheduledworkshifts.

• Substantialknowledge/skillintheprinciplesandmethodsofoperatingassignedequipment.
• Abilitytodetermineaddresslocations.
• Working knowledge of safety rules and requirements.
• Abilitytomakeminorrepairsandadjustmentstoequipmentandtocheckoperatingdefects.
• Abilitytounderstandandfolloworalandwritteninstructions.
• Communicateswithco-workers,management,citizens,andothersinacourteousandprofessionalmanner.
• Conformswithandabidesbyalldepartmentaland Cityregulations,policies,work procedures,and instructions.
• Qualified to operate one of
  the following types of vehicles:
• Garbage or Recycling Side Loader*
• Commercial Garbage Front Loader*
• Bulk Trash Grappling Truck*

* Qualifications as determined by City Solid Waste Management and Public Works Director or designee.

HighschooldiplomaorGEDequivalentwithdemonstratedsafedrivingrecord.

Mustholda Stateof Florida ClassBDriver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement .

Six (6) months experience in the operation of residential/commercial refuse collection equipment.
