Description

A mission‑driven nonprofit organization client in Oakland is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to support daily accounting operations with a strong emphasis on reconciliations, affordable housing and grant-related accounting.

This role is ideal for someone experienced in the nonprofit sector who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and maintaining high attention to detail.

Schedule:

On-site, 5 days/week in Oakland California

Hours:

40 hours/week

Contract:

3-6 months (Contract-to-Hire)

Key Responsibilities

+ Perform reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.

+ Support grant accounting, including tracking, reporting, and compliance with funding requirements.

+ Assist with property management-related accounting, including rent schedules and asset activity.

+ Handle select Accounts Payable functions as needed.

+ Prepare and maintain schedules, reports, and supporting documentation for month-end and year-end close.

+ Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls.

+ Collaborate with the CFO and internal teams to resolve discrepancies and streamline processes.

Requirements

Top Skills & Experience

+ Nonprofit accounting experience required.

+ Strong knowledge of grants accounting and property management accounting.

+ Advanced proficiency in Excel, particularly for reconciliations and schedule preparation.

+ Detail-oriented with strong problem‑solving skills.

Experience with nonprofit accounting systems is a plus- examples included:
Sage, Yardi, MIP, App Folio, Financial Edge, MRI or Quick Books
