About the OpportunityA highly regarded California law firm is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join its Finance & Accounting team in Oakland. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional with payroll and accounts payable expertise who enjoys working in a collaborative, service-oriented environment.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the firm's financial operations by managing payroll processes, accounts payable functions, expense reporting, and vendor payments. This position offers exposure to a sophisticated professional services environment and the opportunity to work closely with firm leadership and cross-functional teams.
Following the initial onboarding and probationary period, this role offers a hybrid work arrangement.
Responsibilities Payroll Administration- Process semi-monthly payroll and off-cycle payroll transactions using the firm's HRIS platform.
- Review timesheets and payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Process wage garnishments, pay levies, and other court-ordered deductions.
- Maintain employee payroll records and process termination payments.
- Resolve payroll discrepancies and employee payroll-related inquiries.
- Collaborate with Human Resources regarding employee status changes, leaves of absence, and compensation updates.
- Prepare payroll reports and provide reporting support to Accounting and Finance leadership.
- Maintain accurate payroll documentation and records.
- Ensure payroll processes comply with firm policies and internal controls.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee compensation and sensitive personnel information.
- Process daily accounts payable transactions and vendor invoices.
- Review, audit, and reconcile employee expense reports and corporate card transactions.
- Establish and maintain vendor records.
- Prepare and process vendor payments, checks, and trust account disbursements as needed.
- Ensure expenses are properly documented and comply with firm policies.
- Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Maintain accuracy while meeting critical accounting deadlines.
- Support accounting and finance projects as assigned.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys, staff, vendors, and firm leadership.
- Manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.
- Assist with process improvements and operational efficiencies within the Accounting Department.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support firm operations.
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in payroll and accounts payable.
- Strong understanding of payroll processing, accounting procedures, and financial controls.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and employee information.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Salary range: $90,000 - $150,000 annually
, dependent upon experience, qualifications, and overall fit.
This equates to approximately $43.27 - $72.12 per hour based on a full-time schedule.
