Bookkeeper

Description

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to support day-to-day financial operations for a nonprofit team based in Oakland, California. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent position is ideal for someone who can manage core accounting activities with accuracy, maintain organized financial records, and contribute to a smooth month-end process. The role requires hands-on expertise in accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and accounting systems such as Quick Books and Sage - Sage Intacct preferrably.

Responsibilities:

- Maintain accurate financial records by posting transactions, updating ledgers, and keeping documentation organized for reporting and audit readiness.

- Process vendor invoices, payment schedules, and expense records while ensuring accounts payable activity is completed on time and with proper approvals.

- Oversee customer billing, record incoming payments, and follow up on outstanding balances to support consistent accounts receivable performance.

- Complete regular bank and account reconciliations to verify balances, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.

- Prepare routine financial summaries and assist with month-end closing tasks to support leadership visibility into cash flow and account activity.

- Use Quick Books and Sage Intacct to manage daily bookkeeping functions, maintain data accuracy, and support efficient accounting workflows.

- Partner with internal stakeholders to address transaction questions, improve recordkeeping practices, and maintain compliance with established financial procedures.

Requirements

- At least 4 years of bookkeeping experience in a hands-on accounting environment.

- Demonstrated proficiency with Quick Books and experience working in Sage.

- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation processes.

- Ability to manage multiple financial tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Solid understanding of general bookkeeping principles and financial record maintenance.

- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams.

- Comfortable working in a contract role with the potential for a permanent position and adapting to evolving business needs.
