Your impact

We are looking for a Construction Electrical Inspector at our Oakland, CA location to perform work such as analysis, surveillance, and reporting of a transit agency’s zero emissions transportation infrastructure projects including medium voltage switch gear, electric vehicle supply equipment, utility service upgrades, and a variety site improvements and electrical installations. You will also utilize your expertise to perform inspection and quality control verification of materials’ adherence to federalized projects’ requirements.

To ensure success in this role, you will apply your knowledge of engineering fundamentals and safety regulations to ensure the project is being constructed in full compliance with contract documents.

As Construction Electrical Inspector work under the direction of a Construction Project Manager, and will assume the following functional responsibilities:

  • Perform quality assurance inspections to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on the civil, structural, plumbing, and electrical plans and specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including inspection logs, daily reports, digital photographic documentation, force account records, materials testing, and other construction records.
  • Monitor and inspect the work of contractors to ensure proper construction methods and techniques are utilized, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
  • Assist with preparation, analysis and review of contract change orders.
  • Work within an established construction management procedure and review construction plans, specifications, submittals, drawings, change orders, and Requests for Information (RFIs) to confirm the current requirements of the construction contract are applied in the field.
  • Identify, document, and track the resolution of contractor work that is out of compliance or deficient, ensuring corrective actions are taken promptly.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Bluebeam and other relevant software to summarize inspection findings, analyze data, and track progress.

Here's what you'll need
  • 5+ years of relevant civil, structural, plumbing, and electrical inspections and construction experience on large scale ($20m+) construction projects
  • Must have a strong understanding of Caltrain or BART’s construction management practices
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk construction site, including walking up and down slopes, climbing ladders, working at heights, and walking on scaffolding and other temporary structures.
  • Willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day and/or night calls
Ideally you will have:
  • Knowledge of Caltrain or B.A.R.T Resident Engineer Manual
  • Knowledge of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements
  • Knowledge of plumbing, structural, civil, and systems integration
  • Knowledge of construction practices, safety best practices, situational awareness of working in an active industrial maintenance yard

The base salary range for this position is $55.00 to $85.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
