Early Career Designer

Einwiller Kuehl is a landscape architecture and urban design practice that has been breaking new ground for over a decade. Recognized as the Best of practice by the Architect’s Newspaper in 2024, the firm was honored for both its design and its concern for intentional community building inside and outside the office. Based in Oakland, California, the practice is known for guiding generative collaboration and interdisciplinary design innovation across a range of project types and scales.

Working with architects, urban designers, communities, and contractors, the office creates strong designs and often works in long‑term relationships with clients over many years and successive projects. All the firm’s work demonstrates a passion for legacy thinking and how landscape can create a healthier world where people are more equitably connected to nature and to each other. The firm has been recognized for its leadership in restorative justice in the public realm, the quality of their designs, and a culture of creativity.

We are looking for curious, innovative, high‑energy, and talented individuals with some experience working in professional design offices. The ability to be actively engaged with a team and work collaboratively with a high level of visual and written communication is a must. A creative and resourceful individual who is eager to both take on new challenges and learn new skills will thrive in the position.

• Work closely with internal team to develop designs and ideas in a spirit of discovery and experimentation
• Work with all collaborators in a generous, efficient and positive manner
• Take initiative and work independently on research, initial design ideas, iteration and studies, and representation
• Collaborate with teams in established office workflows for production
• Demonstrate clear, critical, and creative thinking with openness for dialogue and experimentation

• Masters in landscape architecture or architecture preferred
• 0‑4 years of professional experience.
• Experience in a design firm as an intern or employee with references
• Excellent visual, verbal and written communication skills
• Enthusiasm and curiosity as a collaborator
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and 3D modeling software such as Rhino

• Full Time
• Current office schedule is M,W,TH in the Oakland office and Tu/F at home
