Summary
SUMMARY
:
The physician will provide physical medicine and rehabilitation services for Alameda Health System. Services will be on-site at Highland Hospital, San Leandro Hospital, or Alameda Hospital. This position is for service as needed, covering as an acute inpatient PM&R attending or acute care PM&R consult attending at a level 1 trauma center. We offer weekend coverage opportunities (1–2 weekends per month) and up to 5 weekdays per month for PTO/CME time when full-time physicians are absent.
This position involves PM&R work duties only. Alameda Health System has 24/7 internal medicine coverage of the acute rehab unit.
Duties & Essential Job Functions

Role:
Inpatient PM&R Physician
Evaluate, diagnose, provide consultation, medically manage, and treat patients with developmental or acquired physical or neurological impairments, including designing and monitoring rehabilitative programs.Admit and provide primary attending physician coverage to the acute inpatient rehabilitation unit, including performing general history and physical examinations.Attend weekly team conferences and perform at least three in-person visits per week per patient when covering acute inpatient rehabilitation services.Provide acute care physical medicine and rehabilitation consultations at Alameda Hospital and Highland Hospital.Attend HGH trauma multidisciplinary rounds while on consultation service.Work with ARU clinical liaison team to provide additional clinical information on appropriateness and barriers to admission for patients who have received a PM&R consultation at HGH and Alameda Hospital.Provide home call services from 4 PM until 8 AM, including admission of new patients and answering calls related to physical medicine and rehabilitation issues (pain, bowel and bladder programs, wounds, behaviors, sleep dysfunction). No home call when covering consult service.Provide weekend call coverage (Friday 4 PM until Monday 8 AM) for the acute inpatient rehabilitation unit. Duties include admitting new patients (history and physical), home call services, and in-person visits with established patients with urgent clinical issues.Perform procedures such as soft tissue and trigger point injections, ligament and tendon injections, Botox injections, wound care, prescribing orthotic and prosthetic devices, wheelchairs, assistive devices, special beds, arthrocentesis, aspiration, and joint/bursae injections. Procedures are a possibility but not required.Minimum Qualifications
Education: MD or DO required.
Certifications: Board eligible or certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Licenses: Valid medical license in California, DEA license.
Pay Range: $172.90 - $183.11 per hour.
The pay reflects the base scale at Alameda Health System. Final compensation depends on experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, collective bargaining agreements, and operational needs. Alameda Health System offers a comprehensive benefits program.
