Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in an assigned educational program; assistance with IEP goals; attend to physical and health needs; monitor and report student progress; perform clerical and supportive duties related to classroom activities and management.

• Deaf and Hard of Hearing Para-Educator: Provide instruction to DHH students using ASL, PSE, MCE, and appropriate facial expressions.
• Visual Impairment Para-Educator: Assist students who are blind or visually impaired, read and demonstrate Braille, operate supportive equipment and assist navigation.

• Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students (Pre‑K through young adult) in assigned classroom or program, including Special Day Class.
• Read IEP goals and support instruction to maximize student progress.
• Communicate with teachers and/or parents regarding progress and IEP implementation.
• Implement classwide and individual behavior strategies; maintain a safe learning environment.
• Provide instruction reinforcement to individuals or small groups; monitor drills, practices and assignments.
• Assist students with washing, toileting, diapering, dressing, grooming, and other personal hygiene activities.
• Assist with transportation of students; reposition students requiring medical equipment.
• Assist with loading/unloading students on buses, wheelchairs, stretchers.
• Volunteer annually to administer Diastat and perform medical procedures when trained.
• Provide basic first aid and specialized health care as needed.
• Assist the teacher in monitoring motivation, training students with disabilities, managing behavior, reporting progress.
• Perform clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, scoring papers, maintaining attendance, and student files.
• Set up work areas, operate audio‑visual equipment, distribute and collect materials.
• Administer, monitor, and score tests and assignments.
• Assist students in developing self‑help, social and communication skills.
• Notify appropriate personnel of substance abuse, neglect, medical conditions, or suicide risk.
• Assist in lunchroom activities and mealtime procedures.
• Carry out positive reinforcement and reactive strategies per behavior support plan.
• Respond to emergency situations; document safety concerns.
• Assist in supervising students inside and outside the classroom, recess, playground, and field trips.
• Operate office, instructional and audiovisual equipment; provide technical assistance.
• Maintain basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office.
• Assist with data collection and determine benchmark attainment.
• Collaborate as part of a team of professionals.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of classrooms and facilities.
• Direct group activities of students.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Adhere to site and department codes of conduct.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and in‑service meetings.
