JOB SUMMARY

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Community Standards is a live-in, academic-year position within University Housing at Oakland University. This role supports the residential community by promoting accountability, fostering student learning, and upholding community standards.

Through this position, the GA will gain hands‑on experience in student conduct, case management, restorative practices, and student development. The GA plays a key role in helping students reflect on their choices, understand community impact, and grow through the conduct process. This position also participates in an on‑call duty rotation, supporting after‑hours response to student concerns.

Graduate Assistants are expected to work an average of 20 hours per week during the fall and winter semesters, as outlined in the graduate assistant contract.

This position is well‑suited for graduate students pursuing degrees in Higher Education Leadership, Counseling, Human Resource Management or other related fields.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Academic Requirements

  • Must be fully admitted to and enrolled in a degree‑seeking graduate program (certificate‑only programs are not eligible)
  • Enrollment in at least 8 graduate credits per semester
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and remain in good academic standing
  • Graduate coursework must apply directly to degree requirements

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to commit to the responsibilities of a live‑in, 20‑hour/week assistantship
  • Additional employment, heavy course loads, or other significant time commitments require prior written approval from the Assistant Director for Community Standards and Academic Support.
  • Candidates must be in good disciplinary standing and not have been found responsible for serious conduct violations

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Adjudicate lower‑level cases of alleged Housing student misconduct
  • Meet with students to discuss incidents, promote reflection, and assign educational outcomes
  • Track sanction completion and follow up with students as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in conduct management systems
  • Participate in an after‑hours on‑call duty rotation
  • Assist with educational outreach and community standards initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION

Stipend

  • $10,952 for the academic year, paid monthly

Room & Board – Academic year ONLY

  • Fully furnished on‑campus staff apartment (live‑in required)
  • Meal plan provided in support of on‑call responsibilities

Tuition Support

  • Coverage for up to 8 credits per semester during the academic year
  • Additional credits, fees, and textbooks are the student’s responsibility
  • Tuition awards are processed through the Financial Aid Office
