Overview
Head-Royce School is seeking a culturally responsive, flexible, enthusiastic, and innovative Visual Arts teacher to teach Studio Art and Ceramics. The teacher will develop artists by establishing an engaging learning environment and offering varied learning activities. The Visual & Performing Arts Department emphasizes experiential learning, risk-taking, viewing the world through multiple lenses, using innovative tools, and demonstrating proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real-world problems and performances.
The department aims to create a student-centered program with meaningful, project-based learning, emphasis on process, community connection, and student choice and ownership. Head-Royce supports inclusivity that promotes mutual respect and empathy. Teachers serve as advisors, club sponsors, and participate in school life. Applicants should have a strong academic background, experience in anti-racist pedagogy, ecological literacy, an understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with middle school students.
