Position: ASSISTANT TEACHER

Assistant Teacher – Go Girls! Oakland is looking for temporary full‑time assistant teachers for our Go Girls! Camp 2024 season (June 3 – July 19). Compensation is $17.00–$23.00 per hour DOE, about 40 hrs per week per session. Sessions: #1 June 3‑14, #2 June 17‑28, #3 July 8‑19. Hours Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm (final Friday until 5:30 pm). Applicants are not required to work all three sessions.

Training

Mandatory training is the weekend of May 4‑5 2024. Stipend will be paid and meals provided. Training will cover the Go Girls! Camp Methodology, team collaboration, and skills for careers in education, youth work, and activism.

Responsibilities
  • Train with Go Girls! Oakland staff to learn the Go Girls! Camp Methodology.
  • Assist the Site Director, Play Director, Expressive Artist, and Dance/Music Specialist in implementing curriculum and high‑quality learning experiences.
  • Lead age‑appropriate creative and playful activities that teach cooperation, focus, generosity, and creativity.
  • Work with a team to effectively manage a group of about 48 young children using positive discipline techniques.
  • Support the Go Girls! Leadership Team (ages 12‑15) during camps.
  • Help children feel safe and have fun during community building, free play, snack, and lunch times.
  • Support children to manage conflicts peacefully by facilitating “talk‑it‑outs.”
  • Facilitate clean‑up time, coordinate transitions, serve snacks, and read books aloud to kids.
  • Make positive connections with parents during camp.
Qualifications
  • Recommended at least 2 years of experience working with children ages 5‑10.
  • Currently working toward a high‑school diploma or college degree.
  • Some knowledge of early childhood and youth development.
  • Basic respect for and experience in theater and other art forms.
  • Flexibility: multi‑tasking and managing challenges in a variety of situations.
  • Confidence: able to project calm and confidence.
  • Impeccable social/emotional skills: ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Curious and reflective mindset.
  • Positive energy and inclination to model kindness and playfulness.
  • Strong boundaries: able to say no when needed and keep all kids safe.
  • All employees undergo fingerprinting background checks and TB testing.
  • Dependable arrival to work each day.
