Job DescriptionTitle: Instructional Assistant – Child Development Centers Bilingual
Reports to: Site or Program Administrator
Department: Child Development
Classification: Classified (Non‑Exempt)
Work Hours: 12 month, 6.0 hours per week (or as assigned)
Grade: CDCI 8
ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of a Site Supervisor, provide quality child care and a safe loving environment for children in the Child Development Center (CDC). Key duties include:
- Assist with planning and implementing a variety of activities that meet children’s developmental needs.
- Read stories, sing, play games, and participate in children’s activities.
- Supervise children during outdoor and indoor play, including inclement weather adjustments.
- Ensure safety, respond to needs and concerns with patience and sensitivity.
- Assist with snack and lunch times, escort children to cafeteria, and maintain dining hygiene.
- Support children’s physical needs and personal hygiene.
- Guide and encourage children in projects, promoting self‑image and self‑esteem.
- Observe behavior, report signs of neglect or abuse per guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly environment.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience: High school graduation and some experience working with children.
Language Requirement: Speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish.
Clearance: Employment eligibility including fingerprints, TB, and other clearances.
Knowledge and Skills- Basic principles and practices of early child development, proper care and discipline.
- Basic record‑keeping and safety and health practices.
- Ability to plan and implement activities, provide role modeling, and use positive behavior management.
- Effective communication in English and Spanish, including translations and interpretations.
Includes hearing, speaking, seeing, dexterity of hands, and ability to bend, kneel, and reach overhead.
Job Requirements- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
