Salary: $20.57 to $35.19 per hour

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in an assigned educational program, including Special Day Class (SDC) and other programs. Responsibilities include supporting students with disabilities to meet the goals and objectives of their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), attending to students’ physical and health needs, monitoring and reporting student progress, and performing clerical and supportive duties related to classroom activities and management.

• Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to students in Pre‑K through Young Adult, ensuring students with disabilities meet IEP goals.
• Read IEP goals and support classroom instruction to maximize student progress.
• Communicate with teachers and parents regarding progress and IEP implementation.
• Implement behavior strategies to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Assist with student hand‑washing, toileting, dressing, grooming, and other personal hygiene tasks.
• Assist with transportation of students, including positioning students who use medical equipment or wheelchair.
• Assist with loading/unloading students from buses, wheelchairs, stretchers, and gurneys.
• Volunteer for training to administer Diastat and perform basic medical procedures when supervised.
• Provide basic first aid and specialized health care as directed.
• Take attendance, prepare and maintain student files, and perform clerical duties.
• Support teachers by setting up work areas, operating audio‑visual equipment, and collecting/dealing with instructional materials.
• Administer, monitor, and score tests and assignments, rephrase and explain instructions as needed.
• Assist students in developing self‑help, social, and communication skills.
• Notify appropriate personnel and agencies when suspicions of substance abuse, child neglect, medical or social conditions arise.
• Assist with monitoring lunchroom activities, feeding, and cleaning.
• Assist with positive reinforcement procedures and reactive strategies identified in behavior support plans.
• Respond to emergencies and document safety concerns.
• Supervise students in and outside the classroom, recess, playground activities, and accompany field trips.
• Operate and maintain office, instructional, and audio‑visual equipment.
• Maintain knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Office.
• Collect data, track goals, and determine when students reach benchmarks.
• Work as part of a professional team for the betterment of special education programs.
• Keep classrooms and school facilities neat, clean, orderly, and safe.
• Direct group activities and maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Adhere to site and department codes of conduct.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and in‑service meetings.
