2ND-6TH GRADE MATH SPECIALIST (Full time beginning Aug 2026)
Lower/Middle School has an immediate opening for a 2nd‑6th math specialist. This position will support our recent efforts to differentiate and enrich our math program. We’d love you to join our faculty and create classrooms that inspire a lifelong love of learning by encouraging students to engage in experiential opportunities, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, use innovative tools, build empathy, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real‑world problems and performances.
Responsibilities- Schedule one to two pull‑out sessions per week in each 2nd‑6th math classroom for enrichment or remediation, collaborating with classroom teachers to identify student needs and record weekly activities.
- Meet with 2nd‑6th grade teachers to discuss support needs and recommend enrichment and remediation materials.
- Observe teaching and provide feedback, coaching on instructional approaches in math.
- Analyze CTP/Milestones data with teachers and administrators to design approaches to improve student achievement and instruction; provide summary reports to the Head of Lower and Middle School.
- Attend division or grade‑level meetings and math department meetings as needed.
- Collaborate with the math department to assess the effectiveness of the math curriculum.
- Lead professional development workshops on math differentiation, including You Cube and related resources.
- Research best practices in math and co‑create curriculum from Upper Elementary into Middle School.
- Create opportunities for K‑8 math experiences, such as estimation challenges and the Julia Robinson Math Festival.
- Collaborative, collegial, and flexible with student‑centered educators.
- Clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated success partnering with parents to support students’ educational needs.
- Growth mindset, love of learning, and patience.
- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills.
- Flexible pedagogical approach, using multiple modalities to deliver concepts.
- Clear desire to use a variety of teaching approaches to reach diverse student populations and adapt to their learning styles and needs; integrates technology to enhance the student experience.
- Practiced in differentiated instruction.
- Demonstrated understanding of curriculum design, pedagogical approaches, and developmental appropriateness to deliver engaging, active, student‑centered lessons, practice, and assessment.
- Familiar with and uses formative and summative assessment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or Math Education.
- Minimum five years of teaching experience at the primary elementary level.
- Strong academic background, experience in multicultural education, and awareness of ecological literacy.
- Genuine fondness for working with students of this age.
- Advanced degrees in education are an asset.
- Must provide clearance background screening, TB, and SB848.
