Head-Royce School is seeking a full‑time Middle School Math teacher for the 26‑27 school year. The teacher will lead the curriculum from pre‑Algebra through Geometry, including Advanced Algebra I, and may also teach computer science or financial literacy. In addition to instruction, full‑time faculty serve as student advisors and may lead affinity groups or clubs.
Responsibilities- Instruct Middle School students in math, including pre‑Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Advanced Algebra I.
- Plan and deliver lessons using culturally responsive pedagogy and developmentally appropriate classroom management.
- Design units based on Understanding by Design and incorporate Universal Design for Learning.
- Collaborate with colleagues and serve as a Middle School advisor.
- Participate in an outdoor education trip for 3–4 nights (stipend provided).
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
- Experience teaching math to middle‑school learners with developmentally appropriate classroom management skills.
- Experience teaching computer science and/or financial literacy at the developmental age.
- Collaborative and flexible with the ability to teach grades 6–8.
- Clear communication with students, colleagues and parents.
- Knowledge of social/emotional development and curriculum for culturally responsive teaching.
- Curiosity about curriculum design, varied pedagogical approaches, and assessment.
- Experience designing lessons based on Understanding by Design (UbD).
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of technology to enhance learning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field.
- 2–5 years minimum teaching experience.
- Desire to teach in the Middle School.
- Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with an emphasis on equity and social justice.
- Advanced degrees or certifications in Mathematics, Computer Science, Science, or Education are desirable.
- Experience with Universal Design for Learning when designing lessons or courses.
