Educator, Youth Development

40hrs per week. Typical work days are Monday - Friday with some Saturday shifts depending on projects.

Planting Justice Educators lead and support learning opportunities across sites both internal and external to Planting Justice, ensuring that education is mission-aligned, effective, and meaningful for systems-impacted youth, adults and families. PJ Education Programs take place in public schools, at community sites, at PJ sites, and within jails and prisons. This role is part of a collaborative team of Educators that supports each other with curriculum development, class preparation, and garden maintenance.

This position is a full time, hourly, and reports to the Education Program Manager, with guidance provided by on-site team members. Sites included but are not limited to:

• Prior experience with teaching in the public school system or the demonstrated ability to develop and facilitate curriculum for youth.
• Experience as a youth advocate, mentor, case manager, reentry coordinator, community organizer for the abolition of the prison industrial complex, or any other related experience working with and empowering marginalized groups
• Experience with agro-ecology, traditional ecological knowledge, gardening, farming, or herbalism.
• Ability to develop and teach curricula related to food sovereignty, racial justice, community healing, culinary arts, and plants.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Experience with cooking and culinary arts
• Experience with landscaping power tools and garden maintenance, or willingness to learn.
• A clear commitment to a healing-centered, decolonial, and feminist frameworks, with a focus on creating equitable outcomes for all individuals and communities.
• Maintain positive working relationships with a diverse set of community partners, program participants, and staff members.
• Ability to remain open-minded, patient, empathetic, and growth-oriented through challenging work experiences.
• Ability to speak and write Spanish
• Competent with Google Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn.
• Able to be flexible, willing to perform other tasks as assigned, and able to adapt to changing circumstances, situations, and expectations.
• Able to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with others.
• Valid driver’s license as well as a clean driving record (provide MVR from CA DMV).

• Compensation for this position is $22.00-$26.50 an hour, dependent on experience.
