Tutoring Elementary School Students

Boost! West Oakland's innovative programs provide individualized, one-on-one support to each of its participants. The activities are consistent, well-organized, and offer continuous support over a long period of time. Students attend Boost! at least once a week for an entire school year, and many students participate for five or six consecutive years. Each child in Boost! has the dedicated support of a tutor/mentor whose role is to provide academic and social-emotional support for the student by listening to and addressing the student's unique needs and talents.

For many of the children this is the only time that they have such a high level of dedicated, positive attention from an adult, and the effect can be life‑changing. Boost! participants routinely surpass their peers in language, math, and self‑esteem assessments.

The Children’s Education Project is seeking compassionate and dependable volunteers to support elementary students through one‑on‑one and small‑group tutoring during the upcoming school year.

As a volunteer tutor, you’ll help students build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and develop positive relationships in a supportive learning environment. No teaching experience is required—we provide training, lesson materials, and ongoing support to help you feel prepared and successful.

• Flexible scheduling (30‑minute to 2‑hour shifts)
