Prospective Teacher TK-12 Substitute Eligibility Pool (2026-27

Job Description

Substitute teachers receive short-term assignments to cover teacher absences from the classroom and are responsible for following lesson plans to maintain and further student learning. Successful applicants will receive assignments through the Frontline substitute scheduling system.

• Minimum of an Emergency Substitute Teacher Permit for Prospective Teachers issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
• Enrolled in a regionally accredited four-year California college or university, with a minimum of 90 semester units and a passed CBEST exam (or alternative demonstration of basic skills).
• Complete application for this position (including two references).
• Gather the following materials for onboarding:
• Negative TB test current within past 60 days.
• Sealed copies of all college transcripts.
• Valid driver’s license, , permanent residency card, or current U.S. passport.
• Social Security card (no copies).
• Printout of current credential.
• Proof of passing CBEST or equivalent coursework.

• Effective immediately, candidates can use a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (IHE) as demonstration of the basic skills requirement (SB 153).
• If the candidate needs the exam, they may meet CBEST/Basic Skills through SAT, ACT, undergraduate coursework, or another qualifying exam.

• All hires are contingent on applicant passing a criminal background check.
