Class Purpose
Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty members to provide high-quality instruction and studentsupport in accordance with the District's mission of advancing equity, student success, and academic excellence. Part-time faculty are responsible for delivering engaging, inclusive instruction that promotes student learning and achievement while supporting thediverse educational goals of the District's students.
Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day,evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any of the District's colleges.
Examples of DutiesExamples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
- Prepare and deliver effective, student-centered instruction using evidence-based teaching practices.
- Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials,assignments, and assessments.
- Evaluate student performance in a timely and equitable mannerand maintain accurate academic records.
- Submit grades and other required reports by established deadlines.
- Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
- Maintain regular communication with students and respond promptly to inquiries.
- Utilize the District's learning management system and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
- Comply with District policies, collective bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal andstate regulations.
- Participate in department meetings, professional development,and other college activities as appropriate for part-time faculty.
- Possession of a Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with aTESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESLemphasis,English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESLemphasis OR
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English witha TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with aTESL certificate AND master’s inlinguistics, applied linguistics,English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speechor anyforeign language OR
- the equivalent
- Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as established bythe California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
Applicants are required to demonstrate that they meet the minimum qualifications by submitting official or unofficial transcripts and providing a complete and detailed record of relevant professional work experience in their application materials.
The District will review education and work history to determine whether minimum qualifications are met. Determinations are made in accordance with Title 5 regulations and District procedures. Official transcripts and additional verification of employment
will be required upon offer of employment.
For disciplines requiring a degree and professional experience,applicants must clearly describe how their education and work experience meet the stated minimum qualifications.
EquivalencyApplicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly mayapply for equivalency. Equivalency determinations are made througha separate review process in accordance with District procedures.
The Equivalency Committee will consider only those applicants who formally request equivalency consideration by submitting the Completed Equivalency Request Form. The form should be submitted to epalafox before the application closedate. Be sure to attach detailed evidence, such as unofficial transcripts and/or other certifications that support theequivalency.
