Field Service Technician

Connect Staffing is hiring a Field Service Technician – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Northern California to support a leading solar energy company’s storage projects. This role involves commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting battery energy storage systems, inverters, and related equipment at both utility‑scale and commercial sites.

Pay range: $30-45/hr

Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Location: Hybrid – approximately 80% travel required.

Job Type: Temp-to-Hire

Environment: Combination of indoor and outdoor sites.

Overtime: Available as needed

• 3 years of experience as a field service technician, electrical technician, or similar role, preferably in energy storage, solar, or electrical systems (within the last 5 years).
• Hands‑on experience commissioning, operating, or troubleshooting BESS equipment (inverters, PCS, batteries, grid‑tied systems)
• Ability to read electrical schematics/diagrams and perform system diagnostics
• Experience using electrical test equipment (multimeter, clamp meter, oscilloscope)
• Experience performing preventive maintenance, minor repairs, adjustments, or replacing worn components.
• Ability to document work and maintain accurate service records.

• 5+ years of experience in field service, electrical maintenance, or energy storage system operations.
• Familiarity with BESS system design, SCADA/DCS platforms, or communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, Ethernet).
• Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Computer Science Discipline from an accredited university or college.
• Electrical troubleshooting and repair skills for medium‑voltage AC/DC systems, inverters, and battery modules.
• Experience performing site commissioning, start‑up, and testing procedures for energy storage or renewable energy projects.
• Experience following electrical safety practices (LOTO, arc flash awareness) in the field.

Preferred prior experience: Field Service Technician, Electrical Technician, Energy Storage Technician, BESS Technician, Solar/BESS Field Engineer, Commissioning Technician, Solar Field Service Technician.

• Commission, pre‑commission, and test battery energy storage systems, including inverters, PCS, and battery modules.
• Configure system software, set parameters, and verify operational performance.
• Troubleshoot electrical, control system, and communication issues in BESS equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on all BESS components.
• Respond to alarms, faults, and abnormal conditions, escalating complex issues to engineering teams.
• Maintain accurate service records, logs, and maintenance documentation.
• Communicate system status, technical updates, and resolutions with customers and site staff.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and logistics teams for effective project execution.

• Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer (E‑Verify hiring site).
• Pass a background check.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around active equipment in indoor/outdoor site conditions.
