Job DescriptionThe Geo‑Engineering Department at AECOM Oakland urgently seeks an experienced, energetic Principal Geotechnical Engineer (Water) to lead projects for dams, pipelines, tunnels, levees, bridges, refineries, and building structures. The role involves supervising and training staff, advancing business development, and providing technical leadership across the geotechnical field.
Responsibilities- Project management – track scope, schedule, and budget
- Business development for new and existing clients
- Prepare engineering services proposals, cost estimates, and schedules
- Create Project Work Plans and Health & Safety Plans
- Provide technical support to geotechnical projects
- Oversee and prepare engineering reports and documentation
- Review engineering reports submitted by junior staff
- Ensure the quality of project deliverables
- Mentor and develop junior staff
- Conduct independent technical reviews
- Maintain a strong commitment to safe project execution
- Lead technical discussions and represent AECOM at conferences
- Resolve complex technical questions and coordinate multidisciplinary work
- BA/BS degree with 8+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent)
- PE registration required
- Valid driver’s license
- Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering;
Master’s or PhD strongly preferred - 10+ years of professional experience
- California GE registration
- Experience planning and directing geotechnical investigations
- Strong foundation engineering knowledge: shallow and deep foundations, earthwork, slope stability
- Familiarity with relevant building code provisions
- Experience on water resources projects and industrial sites such as refineries
- Experience working with local permitting jurisdictions
- OSHA 40‑Hour HazWOPER training
- Local travel may be required
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
- Salary range: $150,000 – $200,000 per year, based on experience and location.
