Job Description
Project Geotechnical EngineerAECOM is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to support dam and other infrastructure projects as part of our industry‑leading team. The successful candidate will play a key technical role in delivering projects that enhance the safety, resilience, and performance of critical infrastructure systems across the western United States. The candidate will also have the opportunity to advance into leadership roles within our team, managing tasks or projects while continuing to be involved in technical work.
You’ll work alongside senior engineers and technical experts to plan and execute geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for a wide range of dam and hydropower facilities, while also gaining exposure to all phases of project development and delivery. This role offers strong opportunities for professional growth, technical mentorship, and advancement within one of the most respected geotechnical and dam engineering practices in the world.
Responsibilities- Plan subsurface investigations including drilling exploration boreholes, advancing CPTs, and performing other onsite geotechnical tests at various sites throughout Northern California.
- Review and assess soil and rock samples for laboratory testing.
- Plan and supervise inspection of construction activities to monitor progress and assess conformance to engineering plans, specifications and construction standards.
- Perform engineering analyses including slope stability, seepage, settlement, earth retention, liquefaction, and shallow and deep foundations.
- Perform seismic stability and deformation analyses of dams, including earthquake ground motions, liquefaction potential, and earthquake‑induced and fault‑induced deformations.
- Perform engineering analysis using Excel, glNT, AutoCAD, LPILE, APILE, Shaft, Geo Studio Suite, Settle3D, PLAXIS, FLAC, Revit, Python scripting and MATLAB.
- Evaluate the expected seismic performance of dams, levees, outlet pipes, probable maximum flood conditions.
- Prepare geotechnical engineering reports and recommendations using Microsoft Office software.
- Review regulations and standards necessary to conduct technical studies and carry out project design and permitting work.
- Prepare and/or peer review designs, specifications, and construction documents.
- Apply QA/QC requirements to own work and work of the project team and perform business development activities and prepare proposals to clients for prospective work.
- BA/BS +6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education.
- 10+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Relocation assistance may be available for this role.

Compensation$135,000-$135,000 per year
