DKS Associates is seeking a Transportation Engineering Assistant to support mid- and senior-level staff on a variety of traffic engineering projects. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E), as well as contributing to multimodal modeling, traffic impact studies and other traffic engineering analyses. This role also provides exposure to transportation planning, with opportunities to support planning and operations tasks such as multimodal corridor studies, long-range planning, travel demand modeling and forecasting, safety evaluations, intersection operations analysis and simulation, electric vehicle charging infrastructure planning, and data analytics.

What

will you be doing?
  • Gaining experience working on a variety of transportation planning and traffic engineering design projects under the guidance of expert team members
  • Conducting technical transportation analysis; including traffic operational analysis using Synchro, Vissim, and other traffic and modeling software to analyze
  • Multimodal planning and impact assessments for autos, trucks, bus, light rail, pedestrians, bikes, e-scooters, etc. Developing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for roadway lighting, permanent signing and pavement markings, traffic signals, traffic signal interconnect/fiber optic communications, intelligent transportation system (ITS) equipment, and temporary traffic control plans
  • Going out in the field to verify the condition of existing traffic systems (Signing, Lighting, Signals, etc) and observe traffic operations
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of complex corridor studies, transit operations, area plans, system plans, and other technical transportation projects.
  • Communicating technical findings to project managers and group managers
  • Working on significant projects across the west coast and in your own community

What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or greater) in Civil Engineering, Transportation, Urban Planning, or similar field, with an understanding of traffic flow theory and forecasting
  • Coursework in Transportation and Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, GIS, Environmental Studies, Statistics, or Travel Demand Modeling
  • Disposition of a consultant
  • Ability to work in a high-performing team, including strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • EIT certificate preferred, or the ability to obtain your EIT certification if hired
  • Ability/Interest in obtaining your PE and/or AICP in the future
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Software experience desired, but not required; AGI lighting analysis software, AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, Synchro, and Visum/Vistro/Vissim
