Overview

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Assistant Resident Engineer for our Antioch, California office. Be involved in projects with our PMCM Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. The position can be located within the San Francisco Bay Area, greater Sacramento area, or the Central Valley.

Responsibilities
  • Must be knowledgeable of various client construction specifications and contract management.
  • Supervise, develop and train field staff and other construction support staff assigned to a project.
  • Supervise and conduct the inspection and review of work in accordance with applicable codes and standards included in the project drawings and specifications.
  • Responsible for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
  • Verify and review project documentation for acceptance, including pay applications, change orders, submittals, shop drawings, cost reduction proposals, traffic control modifications, and others.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the client, project team, and contractors.
  • Manage the construction management team, including sub‑consultants.
  • Review and make recommendations for contractors’ project schedules and non‑conforming work.
  • Attend and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
  • Meet with prospective clients to learn about future CM pursuit opportunities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related field experience or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 7 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g., Caltrans).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contract documents.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in local municipalities and/or Caltrans.
  • Background in construction management, architecture, or engineering fields.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.
  • Familiarity with e‑Builder, MS Office, MS Project and other PC software used on design and construction projects.
  • Bridge and highway construction inspection experience.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $118,000 - $175,230

Additional Information

This position is subject to and contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP.
