Position: Consulting Engineer/ Sr. Consulting Engineer, Structural Engineering & Mechanics

Our Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) team seeks an experienced engineer with an advanced degree in Structural Engineering or Engineering Mechanics to design and analyze structures for extreme events such as earthquakes, wind, explosions, and other hazards. The role involves leading teams, managing projects, and delivering advanced analyses for a diverse portfolio of facilities, including nuclear, defense, and industrial sites.

Under the direction of the Principal, the Senior Consulting Engineer plans, executes, and guides junior engineers in performing engineering analyses of structures, systems, and components for extreme events and unconventional requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Plan, execute, and lead teams to solve challenging and unusual problems.
  • Manage multiple, parallel projects for various clients, including resource management, budget planning and tracking, scope control, and client communication and relationship management.
  • Work independently and on project teams.
  • Perform field walk‑down assessments of power generation, national defense, industrial, and petrochemical facilities.
  • Develop finite element models of structures using commercially available software and perform linear and nonlinear structural analyses using these models.
  • Perform seismic soil–structure interaction analyses of building structures.
  • Prepare calculations and reports documenting engineering analyses.
  • Review work by junior engineers, analysts, technicians, draftsmen, and others assisting the project team.
  • Assist in preparation of proposals, letters, reports, calculations, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.
What You’ll Need
  • Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Doctorate in Structural Engineering or related field required.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics. Will consider more experienced candidates for Senior Consulting Engineer roles.
  • Must have a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong background in structural analysis, structural dynamics, structural design, and engineering mechanics is required.
  • Experience with external hazards equipment qualification techniques including analysis, shake table testing, and experience data.
  • Knowledge and understanding of probabilistic concepts such as risk and reliability, uncertainty quantification, random vibrations, and/or stochastic processes.
  • Familiarity with commercial finite element analysis computer programs such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, LS‑DYNA, and/or SAP
    2000.
  • Experience with and a desire to conduct leading‑edge work and will have led projects requiring creativity in finding and communicating solutions outside the standard.
  • Excellent track record of recognized technical excellence and market leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong client relationships and a substantial revenue base.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a commitment to developing high‑level talent.
  • Participation in professional society activities and publishing papers.
  • May be required to work on projects that are subject to passing a security clearance check.
