Fire Protection Engineering Designer (5+ Years)
Location:
Oakland, CA
Type:
Full‑time
Compensation: USD 95,000 – 125,000 per year
Responsibilities- Design automatic suppression systems and fire‑detection, alarm, and mass notification systems for commercial, retail, institutional, and industrial projects.
- Perform fire code analysis, egress analysis, fire‑resistant construction analysis, and smoke‑control analysis.
- Review project drawings, plans, sections, and bills of materials for compliance with fire protection requirements.
- Analyze existing fire‑alarm systems, design new systems, and perform maintenance and testing reviews.
- Manage client and team relationships, providing technical expertise and addressing challenges throughout project life cycles.
- Prepare proposals, execution plans, and technical engineering reports.
- Utilize AutoCAD and Revit for design and documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors to review product data, shop drawings, and installation instructions.
- Apply daily computer skills, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphic design.
- Perform project management for internal and external client needs.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering, sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in fire protection systems or engineering consulting.
- Experience with inspection, testing, and maintenance (I/T & M) of fire‑alarm systems.
- Knowledge of major fire‑alarm manufacturers and their latest product offerings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit preferred.
- Ability to develop proposals, technical reports, and execute project plans.
- Experience in managing day‑to‑day client interactions and project coordination.
Approximate base salary of $95k – 125k based on experience, plus paid overtime, discretionary bonus, hybrid work schedule, and 401(k) matching.
