About the RoleIntertek is actively seeking an Entry Level Environmental Technician to join our Environmental team in Oakland, CA. This is a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the environmental industry. The role involves environmental consulting work, including field sampling of building contaminants, indoor air quality assessments, and green building certifications.
Shift / ScheduleMonday – Friday, 40 hours per week; shift may vary depending on workload.
Salary & BenefitsThe base wage for this position is $22-25 per hour. Compensation packages are based on factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job‑related reasons. Responsibilities- Perform field sampling of building materials for asbestos, lead, PBCs, and other common contaminants.
- Perform field sampling of indoor air quality assessments.
- Perform field sampling for green building certification components such as LEED and WELL.
- Provide field support in environmental projects such as soil and groundwater sampling.
- Prepare field documentation and reports.
- Maintain training records, field instrumentation, and certifications.
- Coordinate project data, records, and reports related to work assignments.
- Participate in QA/QC and safety programs.
- Perform other assignments as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in environmental consulting, including asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold inspection, sampling, and remediation.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work off shifts, overtime, and occasional out-of-town travel.
- Ability to lift items weighing more than 40 pounds multiple times as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.
- Some out-of-town travel may be required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or Physical Science.
- 1+ year of experience in indoor air quality assessments.
- CA State Asbestos Building Inspector Certification.
- CA State Lead Inspector Certification.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment used for environmental remediation and consulting.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene and practical environmental concepts, principles, and practices.
