Description

Terraphase Engineering is seeking a Principal Stormwater Engineer. In this senior-level role, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership on high-profile stormwater and civil design projects, cultivating new business opportunities, and managing key client relationships. This position requires a strong focus on technical oversight, project management, and the ability to lead and mentor teams. The candidate will also actively engage in business development initiatives to expand Terraphase’s stormwater and civil engineering services across the region.

The Role
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for stormwater and civil engineering projects, ensuring high-quality design, regulatory compliance, and innovative solutions.
  • Lead business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, leading proposal and marketing material efforts with support of the marketing team, supporting the internal Compliance Service Area and Market Sector initiatives, identifying and implementing networking opportunities at business development-related conferences and symposiums, and expanding the company’s stormwater and civil engineering portfolio.
  • Manage client relationships, leveraging networks to secure repeat business and generate new project opportunities.
  • Oversee the development of engineering designs, reports, and specifications, ensuring they meet project requirements and adhere to industry standards.
  • Direct project teams through all phases of execution, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and maintaining high technical standards.
  • Manage municipal permitting and entitlement processes, coordinating with regulatory agencies to ensure timely approvals and compliance.
  • Lead construction oversight, ensuring adherence to project specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive proposal development and manage contract negotiations to secure new projects.
Who You Are
  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering, Hydrology (or a related field) with 15+ years of experience in civil infrastructure, stormwater design, and site grading.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in good standing.
  • Professional certifications; possession of QSP/QSD certification in California or equivalent relevant certifications in other states.
  • Proven track record in business development, with the ability to generate new business, develop client proposals, and successfully close deals.
  • Extensive experience working with local regulatory agencies and a strong understanding of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and stormwater modeling software (e.g., SWMM, HEC-RAS), with a deep understanding of hydraulic and water quality modeling.

Compensation for this position is based on years of experience, technical expertise, technical education, and geographic location.

Pay Range

$145,000 — $180,000 USD
