Transmission Engineer
Trident Consulting is seeking a Transmission Engineer role in Oakland, CA (Hybrid – 3 days office) with one of our industry-leading clients. This is a long-term opportunity, with competitive pay, and the team is actively scheduling interviews.
Position Summary:
- This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining.
- The role is for a journey-level engineer who has mastered Associate engineer skills and duties, and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects.
- The journey engineer exercises independent judgment in applying engineering principles and works with minimal supervision.
- Collaboration with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, and other business partners to assess project needs is essential.
- Additional responsibilities include developing technical studies and reports, providing guidance to contractors and outside vendors, and traveling to/from project-related functions approximately 20% of the time.
Job Responsibilities:
- Resolve problems of moderate scope using standard solutions
- Independently plan work under general direction; progress reviewed periodically for technical accuracy
- Perform functions of Associate level Engineer as needed
- Provide technical expertise, conduct engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs
- Present findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors
- Conduct walk downs and design review meetings
- Prepare technical documents including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reports
- Develop, evaluate, and recommend alternative project proposals
- Solicit, prepare, and evaluate contracts/proposals from engineering consultants
- Review consultant contracts for technical compliance
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations
- Participate in developing restoration plans and assist in root cause analysis
- Approve reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings
- Respond promptly to facility failures in emergencies
- Represent client to government bodies for assigned projects.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited US curriculum or equivalent from outside the US.
- 3 years of cumulative experience in engineering and design.
Desired:
- Electrical transmission line engineering for 115kv–500kv
- Strong familiarity with GO 95, NESC, and client transmission line standards and construction practices
- Strong familiarity with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, etc.
- Skills in project management.
