EBMUD is underway with an extensive capital improvement program that includes conversion of the existing secondary treatment process to a biological nutrient removal process capable of seasonal and reliable nutrient reduction.

EBMUD’s Wastewater Treatment Plant treats on average over 50 million gallons per day, helping to protect the San Francisco Bay. The Wastewater Department also produces approximately 8 million gallons per day of recycled water for reuse, with treatment facilities including reverse osmosis membrane technology.
