Assistant Engineer
East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) Wastewater Process Engineering and Asset Management group is currently seeking an Assistant Engineer who is a motivated and energetic team player with experience in wastewater process engineering and/or wastewater-related research. In this role, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for completing tasks involving optimization of treatment processes and evaluation of innovative technologies at EBMUD's Main Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Duties and responsibilities typically include:
- Conducting research to develop new or improved processes for wastewater treatment.
- Conducting field/laboratory tests and measurements.
- Performing calculations using collected and compiled engineering data.
- Troubleshooting process performance issues.
- Recommending process improvements or optimizations.
- Working with vendors or consultants to obtain information necessary to complete evaluations.
- Assisting the Wastewater Department with meeting regulations by helping with the preparation of compliance reports.
- Collaborating with EBMUD personnel (including operators, mechanics, and technicians), other agencies, and contractors.
- Assisting with projects related to process engineering or unit processes.
The most competitive candidates will possess knowledge of:
- Wastewater process engineering principles (civil/chemical/environmental engineering, chemistry, microbiology, physics, hydraulics, etc.).
- Proper experimental design.
- Wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance.
- Project management principles and practices(project budgeting, scope development, change management, etc.).
- Wastewater process modeling.
- Technical report writing.
- Preparing and delivering technical presentations.
- Wastewater treatment-related regulatory issues.
- Data handling and statistical analysis.
- Automated process monitoring and control systems.
- Engineering economic analyses (net present value comparison, lifecycle cost comparison, payback period analysis, etc.).
The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical reasoning skills; excellent writing and verbal communication skills; and work extremely well with others. The ideal candidate will also be inquisitive, innovative, proactive, enthusiastic, open-minded, and detail oriented.
The salary range is $11,885 per month increasing to $12,479, $13,103, $13,758, and $14,446 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.
