Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer
Advance your career as an Assistant Engineer (Electrical or Control Systems) with an industry-leading water and wastewater utility. The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) is a public agency that delivers water to over 1.5 million customers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. The 332-square-mile water system service area includes 20 incorporated cities and 15 unincorporated communities. Virtually all the water provided by EBMUD comes from a 577-square-mile protected area of the Mokelumne River and is collected in the Pardee Reservoir located 38 miles northeast of Stockton.
EBMUD has a large and complex network of supply, transmission, treatment, and distribution facilities that include 6 treatment plants, approximately 150 pumping plants, 165 reservoirs, 30 rate control stations and 75 regulators. This position is part of the Industrial Control System (ICS) Engineering Group within the Engineering and Construction Department’s Design Division.
The ICs Engineering Group provides control system design and integration services for a wide range of EBMUD facilities, including water treatment plants, distribution reservoirs, rate control stations, regulators, and pumping plants. Engineers in this group develop and maintain standardized ICs hardware and software platforms and ensure these standards are consistently applied across EBMUD projects. Staff work as members of multi disciplinary design teams and are responsible for delivering complete ICs designs for capital improvement projects.
Typical design responsibilities include preparing construction drawings and specifications such as piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical site plans, conduit and cable schedules, and wiring diagrams.
ICS Engineers also support projects through construction by developing and deploying ICs applications. This includes configuration and programming of distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), operator interface terminals (OIT), and remote telemetry units (RTU). Staff test and commission these applications, provide training for Operations and Maintenance personnel, and work closely with commissioning teams to ensure that completed systems operate reliably and meet EBMUD’s requirements.
The salary range is $11,885 per month increasing to $12,479, $13,103, $13,758 and $14,446 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.
