Position

Lighting Technician

Purpose of Position
  • Set up, operate, and maintain all lighting equipment for entertainment areas onboard.
  • Create a guest‑oriented service culture to promote satisfaction and repeat business.
Responsibilities
  • Rig, circuit, and focus lighting for assigned shows.
  • Program the lighting computer/console during technical rehearsals.
  • Perform fixture/circuit checks before each show.
  • Operate manual and computer‑controlled lighting systems during shows.
  • Maintain design integrity and performance quality through show runs.
  • Operate follow‑spot as necessary.
  • Maintain a show report log for each performance.
  • Communicate clearly and timely with the Stage Manager and other departments.
  • Assist with sound needs during special events and perform minor to moderate repairs to lighting equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain overhead riggings in all entertainment venues.
  • Ensure cleanliness and order in all light areas, complying with Public Health and Safety Policies.
  • Attend all show set‑ups, show calls, and meetings punctually.
  • Provide the highest level of comfort and service to guests according to STAR Service Standards.
  • Participate daily in “The Daily Reunion” to support team operations.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and correct lifting techniques.
  • Maintain impeccable grooming, following Viking Image and Uniform Standards.
  • Secure company property to prevent loss or damage during rough weather.
  • Work flexible hours and maintain a positive, imageable attitude.
  • Be knowledgeable about itinerary‑related ports, shore excursions, and shipboard activities.
  • Demonstrate strong motivation to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Follow safety, security, and environmental policies; participate in required trainings.
  • Perform additional duties as instructed by the Cruise Director, Assistant Cruise Director, Stage Manager, or Audio Designer.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience using lighting equipment at live events, including DMX control systems.
  • Shipboard experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree focusing on technical theater preferred.
  • Ability to operate machinery, hand tools, and lighting consoles such as MARTIN M1 and Grand Ma.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, kneeling, crouching for long periods, and climbing ladders and scaffolding.
  • Navigate catwalks and access all theater spaces.
  • Fluent in English with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexible, stress‑resistant, team player, and can work independently.
  • Proficient in PC databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Guest‑focused, service‑oriented, positive personality, professional appearance, and impeccable hygiene.
