ABOUTTHE ROLE
Seneca is hiring an Outpatient School-Based Therapist to guide students to success in an Oakland Unified middle school. They will work as a part of a team to provide a holistic, humanizing, and empowering learning environment for students. The Outpatient School-Based Therapist provides therapeutic, case management, and consultation services for children and families. The Outpatient School-Based Therapist provides assessments, as well as individual, group, and/or family therapy, and assists in the creation and implementation of individual education and behavioral plans for each student.
In addition, the Outpatient School-Based Therapist facilitates the understanding of clinical issues with classroom and school staff, and aids in creating a healing centered school environment.
Seneca’s Unconditional Education Rooted to Rise Program partners with Oakland Unified School District to provide therapeutic and behavioral intervention services for children and families in critical need of support, resources and care. Our Medi-Cal funded program provides individual, family and group therapy as well as push-in behavioral intervention and social skills development during the school day to students. Our team integrates into the school community, collaborates with school partners to deliver interventions and services needed for students to thrive.

Responsibilities- Work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team with teachers, counselors, other specialists/educational staff, and program leadership.
- Provide interventions including therapy (individual, group, family) and case management for identified students based on school-based referrals, individualized clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Engage caregivers in the treatment process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs.
- Provide crisis intervention, including risk screening, assessment, triage, and service linkage.
- Utilize crisis communication and de-escalation techniques as per Seneca's crisis response training. This may include intervening with the clients' behavioral program through physical management of the clients, if applicable. Training in additional crisis intervention modalities may be required.
- Provide consultation to other school staff on safety assessments, mental health crises, accessing social service, and in utilizing healing centered techniques to experience success with all students.
- Contribute to a strong school culture by participating in or leading small group, classroom or school-wide activities for students that celebrate success and promote joy.
- Communicate effectively with families and all others involved in the daily life of the student, including other Seneca programs or outside agencies.
- Complete required data collection and service documentation for plan development and to measure the effectiveness of services, inform team decision making, and/or engage in service billing.
