Overview

THE POSITION
:
Under the supervision of an Administrator in the Human Resources department, plans, organizes, and coordinates various human resources activities; and supervises and evaluates assigned human resources staff.

CURRENT OPENING
:
One 12 month/40 hours per week position. Salary placement will be on Range 28 of the Confidential Salary Schedule "C". Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($29.43 per hour) of this salary range.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the processing of classified employees hired in regular and substitute positions.
  • Coordinates the filling of vacancies, schedules appointments, and explains job requirements of various classifications to District personnel and the public.
  • Assures eligibility according to the Merit System.
  • Explains general policies and procedures as they pertain to classified human resources transactions.
  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of Board of Education agenda materials.
  • Collects and compiles data and prepares written correspondence.
  • Assists with the improvement of record management systems for computerized storage, retrieval, and reporting.
  • Inputs and maintains confidential human resources reports and records (e.g. seniority and employment list) using a variety of office machines including computer, printer, copier, and typewriter.
  • Develops work schedules and supervises, trains, and evaluates human resources office staff.
  • Reviews reports and data for accuracy, format, and completeness prior to distribution.
  • Acts as a liaison with Payroll and outside agencies (e.g. E.D.D. and L.A.C.O.E.) regarding classified human resources transactions.
  • Works closely with Personnel Commission staff to ensure timely distribution of the examination requests.
  • Attends monthly Personnel Commission meetings.
  • Participates as a member of the District classified bargaining team.

Distinguishing Characteristics Among Related Classes

A Human Resources Assistant performs a variety of responsible clerical support duties involved in the processing and maintenance of personnel transactions, records, files, and reports.

A Senior Human Resources Assistant performs high level specialized clerical duties related to personnel transactions, including generating personnel reports, compiling and entering workshop attendee and consultant information for Board of Education approval, and coordinating events.

A Human Resources Office Manager plans, organizes, and coordinates the activities of a human resources staff processing and maintaining classified personnel transactions, records, files, and reports.

Physical Demands

Employees in this classification stand, walk, sit, repetitively use fingers and/or wrists or hands in a twisting motion or while applying pressure, have rapid mental/muscular coordination, speak clearly, hear normal voice conversation, have depth perception, distinguish shades, see small details, use a computer, typewriter, and a telephone.

Work Environment

Employees in this classification work inside almost exclusively, in direct contact with the public and other District employees, in situations requiring tact, and with intermittent diversions.

Education

Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
