Position: Desktop Technician 1 (Entry Level)

Job Summary:

We have a 3+ month contract opportunity for a Desktop Technician in the greater East Bay Area. The primary worksite is in Oakland.

Shift Information
  • This position supports multiple shifts and candidates must be flexible to work any shift assigned (Day, swing, night).
Location Information
  • The role covers multiple locations in the greater Oakland/East Bay area with potential for some travel to San Francisco. Mileage will be reimbursed at the current IRS mileage rate.

Responsibilities
  • Deploy workstations from unboxing computers to setting up workstations, connecting network cables, decommissioning workstations, and reconfiguring workstations.
  • Assist in problem resolution, analysis, specifications, and configurations; coordinate, test, and install computer/mobile device based software, peripherals, LAN, and other equipment.
  • Provide informal training to computer/mobile device users.
  • Maintain asset control and adherence to departmental/system policy directives; uphold data security.
  • Perform first‑level troubleshooting for enterprise/system‑wide computer/mobile device hardware, operating systems, application programs, peripheral equipment, and LAN interfaces.
  • Manage priorities based upon severity, workflow, and time constraints.
  • Apply system expertise to solve desktop workstation and personal computer, associated equipment, and network connectivity problems.
  • Collaborate with Desktop Support staff, Network Engineers, and system/application personnel to resolve issues.
  • Log, document, and close out trouble calls using the service tracking tool(s).
  • Coordinate tasks and activities with other departments, sections, and vendors as directed.
  • Provide timely support services to users and maintain courteous rapport and friendly customer relations.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all data.
  • Analyze, define specifications, configure, install, repair, and test computer/mobile devices, peripheral equipment (including projectors, scanners, and other multimedia equipment), and LAN interfaces.
  • Install new hardware and upgrade existing system components; ensure proper configuration and performance.
  • Coordinate installation of devices and peripherals with vendors.
  • Support asset control accuracy and integrity.
  • Install approved software following standard procedures; coordinate installations and apply software upgrades, fixes, or patches.
  • Assist with evaluation, analysis, and maintenance of devices; maintain proper updates and OS patch configurations under supervision.
