Technical Business Systems Analyst (BSA)
Location:
Oakland, CA – Onsite (3 days/week) | Duration: 6+ Months | Contract
We are seeking an experienced Technical Business Systems Analyst with a strong blend of traditional BA skills and hands-on QA experience. This is a 75% BA / 25% QA role — you will own requirements gathering and client-facing discovery, author detailed functional specifications, and lead test planning, scripting, and execution end-to-end. The ideal candidate brings deep domain knowledge across enterprise platforms, strong SQL proficiency, and a track record of bridging business stakeholders and technical teams in complex, cross-functional environments.
Must-HaveRequirements
• Strong SQL proficiency – ability to write and interpret complex queries, joins, stored procedures, and PL/SQL scripts for data analysis and validation
• Demonstrated BA background with experience in requirements gathering, gap analysis (As-Is to To-Be), and functional specification authoring
• Hands-on QA experience including test case planning, test script creation, functional testing, System Integration Testing (SIT), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) coordination
• Experience as the direct interface between business stakeholders and technical/development teams
• Lead high-level and detailed requirements gathering sessions with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams; serve as the primary client-facing contact through the full SDLC
• Conduct comprehensive gap analysis of As-Is and To-Be processes; produce impact assessments for upstream and downstream systems
• Translate business requirements into functional specifications, use cases, process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, interface design documents, and data mapping artifacts
• Partner with development teams and architects to design system solutions and conduct design reviews
• Build, groom, and maintain product backlogs; facilitate sprint planning and backlog prioritization in Agile/Scrum environments
• Support data migration, system integration, and configuration activities across enterprise platforms
• Facilitate user training sessions and author process guides and knowledge-base documentation
• Cultivate trusted partnerships across business and IT stakeholders to deliver agreed-upon outcomes on time and within scope
• Develop comprehensive test plans and test cases aligned to functional specifications and acceptance criteria
• Lead and execute functional testing, regression testing, and System Integration Testing (SIT)
• Coordinate and facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) cycles — prepare test environments, manage defect tracking, and drive sign-off
• Collaborate with development and QA teams to identify, document, and resolve defects in JIRA or Client ALM
• Validate data accuracy and integrity using SQL queries across relational databases
