Overview
Medical Interpreter- Kʼicheʼ job at Cayuse Holdings. Oakland, CA. The Medical Interpreter provides accurate, effective, and impartial in‑person interpretation of critical medical information between healthcare providers and patients. This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.
Responsibilities- Ensure clear and accurate, effective, and impartial communication between patients and healthcare providers during medical visits.
- Provide the client with a better understanding with regards to diagnosis, treatments, and or instructions from the Provider without altering or changing the meaning of the conversation.
- Interpret spoken language in real time.
- Relay medical information without altering the meaning.
- Maintain strict confidentiality while abiding by all HIPAA regulations.
- Use first person speech to help facilitate as much direct communication as possible.
- Adhere to the clients' code of ethics.
- Show sensitivity to cultural differences and adapt communication styles accordingly.
- Other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or 5 years of related experience.
Fluency in one of the following languages: Kʼicheʼ or Quiché.
Certifications- CCHI (Certification Commission for Health Care Interpreters)
- NBCMI (National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters)
- CMI (Certified Medical Interpreter)
- HMIA (Hawaii Medical Interpretation & Assistance)
- FSI (Foreign Service Institute)
- MISS (Middlebury Institute Interpreter Certification)
- Health & Human Services.
- Medical Field.
- Familiarity with Medical Terminology.
- Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
- Problem‑solving skills.
- Exceptional oral communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
- Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
- Ability to forge new relationships, individually and in team settings.
- Self‑starter; can work independently and as part of a team.
- Bachelor's degree in a foreign language, linguistics or a related field.
- Medical training.
Program Manager
Working Conditions- Professional medical setting.
- On‑call as needed. Interpreters will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
- Requirements to interpret throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
- Physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods of time.
- May travel to different locations for in‑person interpretation.
- May be asked to work a flexible schedule, including holidays.
- May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
- May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
USD $55.00 - USD $80.00 /Hr
