Current Assignment The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Project Manager to lead complex, high-visibility initiatives that support the District's mission to deliver safe, reliable, equitable, and forward-thinking transit service to the Bay Area. This position plays a critical role in advancing capital improvement and infrastructure modernization efforts that directly impact daily ridership and long-term system performance.
The current assignment focuses on managing multi-phase transit projects within BART's Capital Program, with an emphasis on system rehabilitation, state of good repair, technology upgrades, and operational efficiency improvements. Projects may include station modernization, traction power and train control upgrades, communications systems, facilities improvements, and other infrastructure investments aligned with BART's strategic priorities.
The Project Manager will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, including planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, procurement coordination, construction management oversight, and project closeout. This role requires close collaboration with engineering, operations, maintenance, safety, finance, procurement, external contractors, and regional stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Key Operational Priorities- Managing consultant and contractor performance and deliverables
- Mitigating service impacts through coordinated construction planning
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local funding requirements
- Supporting sustainability, resilience, and climate adaptation initiatives
- Integrating equity considerations into capital project delivery
- Driving innovation in project management tools, technology, and practices
- Advancing critical infrastructure rehabilitation and modernization projects
- Strengthening project delivery processes, controls, and reporting transparency
Success in this role requires strong leadership, technical project management expertise, and the ability to navigate a complex public sector environment while maintaining alignment with BART's operational needs and community commitments.
The most qualified candidates for this position will have highly developed competencies in the following area, which will be reinforced with related work experience and will be clearly articulated during the selection process:
- Experience in managing multiple capital projects
- Scope/Schedule/Budget/Quality/Environmental compliance, and Safety experience
- Experience with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) compliance or similar agency requirements
- Construction Management certification preferred
- Professional Engineering certification preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
