General Position Summary
The Northern California Climate Adaptation and Resilience Enhancement (CARE) Coordinator will manage and implement CBE’s internal CARE projects in Richmond and East Oakland, with a special focus on the Hub Network (explained below). Using CBE’s statewide CARE Program, the Nor Cal CARE Coordinator will support the Southern California CARE Coordinator and Hub Manager in establishing the Resilience Hub Network and co-develop a unified vision for impact across Hub priorities.
This position is based out of Richmond and East Oakland.
The Hub Network is a new statewide coalition, led by CBE, that will gather eleven community-based organizations to develop a statewide understanding and strategy towards building climate resilient communities through community-led data gathering, trainings, and strategic planning. The Nor Cal CARE Coordinator will support the statewide implementation of the Hub Network by supporting the leadership development and commitment of community partner organizations through curriculum development, presentations and regular communication with Hub members.
They are also expected to conduct their own research (i.e review peer-reviewed articles, climate policy, and climate data tools) in order to lead workshops on technical assistance, data collection methods, and surveying. This position will support on-the-ground survey distribution, outreach, and engagement with the hub’s northern California-based hub partners. Additionally, this position will collaborate with organizing, research, and legal teams to track statewide climate and resilience programs and policies.
The Nor Cal CARE Coordinator will be supervised by the East Oakland Program Co-Director. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Research, coordinate, and track climate adaptation and resilience planning, projects, and opportunities for community teams.
- Manage resilience hub programming and continue to develop relationships with potential resilience hubs or CARE related partners in Richmond and East Oakland.
- Attend and represent CBE in local, regional, and statewide coalitions related to climate resilience, emergency preparedness, or adaptation planning.
- Maintain up-to-date research on climate adaptation, resilience, and emergency preparedness to support curriculum development for the Hub Network.
- Facilitate peer learning discussions amongst Hub Partners to exchange expertise, share resources, and co-develop a unified vision for impact across Hub priorities.
- Support the Hub Manager in leading technical assistance workshops, offering guidance on effective data collection methods, data analysis, and support partners in adapting surveys to meet the needs of diverse communities.
- Present case studies of CBE’s various research and data collection methodology (CARE survey, community participatory research, etc.) and offer technical assistance to support hub partners’ capacity around data collection.
- Lead on-the-ground survey distribution, outreach, and engagement with Northern California-based Hub Partners.
- Support managing CARE related grants including invoicing, narratives, and deliverables.
- Create communications materials that elevate CARE & Hub projects to a diverse audience; including community members, coalition partners, philanthropic community, government representatives, and governmental agencies.
- Create leadership development materials and opportunities for CBE staff and membership.
- Plan and co-facilitate statewide resilience convenings for community members and policymakers.
- Plan and coordinate emergency preparedness trainings and mutual aid events for community members.
In addition to the above, racial equity and language justice are key values that must be held by the CARE Coordinator. CBE has made a commitment to addressing anti‑blackness and white supremacy culture within our organization, and the CARE Coordinator will participate in CBE’s internal work to meet equity goals and will be a bridge to our members’ participation.
