We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Anesthesia Preoperative Clinic team. The APP will play a critical role in optimizing surgical patients for anesthesia by conducting comprehensive preoperative evaluations, risk assessments, and care coordination. This position requires collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to ensure safe and efficient perioperative care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough preoperative assessments, including medical history reviews, physical exams, and risk stratification.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, ECGs, imaging) to optimize patients for anesthesia.
  • Identify and manage perioperative risk factors in collaboration with anesthesiologists and surgical teams.
  • Educate patients and families on anesthesia risks, preoperative instructions, and postoperative expectations.
  • Coordinate necessary specialty referrals and interventions to optimize patient conditions before surgery.
  • Develop and implement individualized perioperative care plans to enhance patient safety and surgical outcomes.
  • Document all evaluations, assessments, and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and protocol development for preoperative patient management.
  • Provide ongoing education to clinical staff regarding best practices in perioperative care.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Required Education
  • For Nurse Practitioners:
    Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner training program that conforms to the Board of Registered Nursing standards; graduate of an accredited Nursing program required;
    Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • For Physician Assistants:
    Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program of instruction in primary health care approved by the Physician Assisting Examining Committee; OR NCCPA for Physician's Assistant.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • For Nurse Practitioners
    • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing
    • Possession of a current Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing AND Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) OR American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP); OR Certification by the National Certification Corporation as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP).
  • For Physician Assistants
    • Possession of a valid Certificate as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
    • A valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number AND Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Licenses/Certifications
  • BLS
    - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS
Minimum Experience

Demonstrated experience which would provide the knowledge and skill necessary for successful performance as a Mid-Level Practitioner.

Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in anesthesia, perioperative care, critical care, or internal medicine preferred.
  • Experience in a preoperative clinic or similar setting is a plus.
