Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members.
Responsibilities- Assess, recognize, and address patients’ psychological and physical needs.
- Foster quality of care with the best interests of patients and their families in mind.
- Communicate compassionately and effectively.
- Assist in developing individualized treatment plans.
- Comply with evaluation, treatment, and documentation guidelines.
- Oversee care delivered by LPNs and/or CNAs.
- Participate in clinical team conferences.
- Follow hospital, regulatory, and professional guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- BSN Degree from an accredited program required within 4 years of hire (exceptions apply as specified).
- Current State of Montana Registered Nurse License.
- BLS certification upon hire.
- ACLS required within 9 months of hire for all ICU/ED RNs.
- TNCC or TCAR within 12 months of transfer or hire for all ICU/ED RNs; maintain equivalent recognized by the American College of Surgeons.
- Critical care experience highly preferred.
- Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve patient‑focused outcomes.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
- Ability to write reports and effectively present information.
- Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints from customers, and regulatory agencies.
- Basic mathematics skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Regular attendance to perform work on site during scheduled shifts.
- Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, especially during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment with precision.
- Ability to lift, move, and transfer patients and supplies, including heavy items.
- Ability to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and moving supplies, navigating crowded rooms.
- Physical endurance to stand for extended periods.
Part‑time night shift, weekends, holidays on a rotating basis.
Department & LocationICU with floating to med/surg depending on census. St James Hospital, Butte, Montana.
PayHourly range $33.38 – $79.73 depending on experience.
