Registered Nurse - Pediatric OR (BCH-Oakland)

The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland (OR) consists of 11 surgical suites and 1 procedural. Our primary focus is multidisciplinary team‑based approach and staffing.

Services include, but are not limited to:
Neurology, Ortho/Spine, Otolaryngology, Urology, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Dental, Cardiac, General Surgery, GI, Hem/Onc.

All patient care team members are responsible to meet patient needs, demonstrate willingness to learn new skills, and foster a harmonious work environment in which high‑quality patient care and customer service is consistently provided. Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner.

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation & evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.
  • Act as a scrub and/or circulating nurse within the operating room, carrying out established nursing procedures and related duties.
  • Provide nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision, and assist with the management of patient care administered by other nursing team members.
  • Maintain knowledge and abilities essential to performance, adhere to the legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, and report to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.
  • Foster cooperative relationships with physicians, other disciplines, and the public through effective communication, honesty, respect, cultural sensitivity, and professional feedback.
Qualifications Required qualifications:
  • Under minimal supervision, function primarily as a scrub and/or circulating nurse within the operating room.
  • Completion of AORN Periop 101 with 2 years experience or 5 years experience in the operating room of a level 3 or 4 acute‑care facility.
  • Current experience in the operating room of an acute‑care setting.
  • Proficiency, ability to independently circulate in at least 3 of the following services:
    General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics/Spine, Otolaryngology/Airway, GU, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Cardiac.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well organized, detail‑oriented, able to multitask, work independently, and handle pressure.
  • Basic computer keyboard skills and general PC knowledge.
  • Required on‑call commitment and flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CNOR certification.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Proficient in scrubbing role in at least 2 of the services listed above.
  • Experience in Level 1 trauma hospital.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification.
  • Active American Heart Association PALS certification.
