Rhino Medical is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for a locum tenens position supporting a Level IV NICU in Oakland, CA. The role involves providing comprehensive neonatal care for infants from birth to 1 year old, primarily during 3x12-hour night shifts per week. The setting includes high-acuity neonatal ICU beds, with support from physicians, surgeons, APP colleagues, and administrative staff. The position may include cross-training to cover the newborn nursery, excluding ECMO patients but with the potential to manage infants immediately post-ECMO.

Full-time, nights, weekends, and holidays required - Hospital-Level IV NICU in a high-acuity setting
- Supporting two facilities with a total of 58 NICU beds (San Francisco), 38 beds (Oakland), and 10+ newborn nursery beds per provider
- EMR: EPIC
Practice Environment
This Level IV NICU cares for critically ill newborns and infants with surgical or life-threatening conditions, offering a dynamic and advanced neonatal care environment. Providers work within a hospital setting supported by EPIC EMR and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Coverage & Work Details
- 3 night shifts weekly, 12 hours each (19:00–07:00)
- Support staff includes physicians, surgeons, APP colleagues, and administrative teams
- Acts as a member of the care team managing neonatal patients from birth to 1 year old
- Excludes management of ECMO patients, but may oversee immediate post-ECMO care
Requirements
- Active California state license
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC) certification
- DEA registration with CA address
- BLS and NRP certifications
- CMS Medicare/Medicaid enrollment submitted before first clinical day
- 2–3 years of neonatal ICU experience in Level III or IV NICUs
Preferred / Helpful
- Experience in Level IV NICU settings
