Location: Oakland, CA - 94611
Schedule: 13 Weeks, 36 hr./week
Shift: Night Shift, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Pay Local: $70 - $80/hr.
Pay Travel: $3000 - $3650 Gross weekly
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to provide specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients, including children with complex cardiac conditions. The ideal candidate will have strong PICU experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced critical care environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU.
- Assess, monitor, and document patients’ physical and clinical conditions.
- Care for pediatric patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions.
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, neurological status, and other critical parameters.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly initiate appropriate interventions.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other treatments as ordered.
- Manage and monitor central lines, arterial lines, drains, feeding tubes, and other critical-care equipment as appropriate.
- Provide care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation and other advanced respiratory support.
- Respond rapidly to emergencies and participate in pediatric resuscitation and code situations.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Educate patients’ families and caregivers regarding treatment plans, medications, procedures, and ongoing care.
- Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and their families during critical illness.
- Follow infection prevention, medication safety, patient safety, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Safely operate and troubleshoot appropriate PICU equipment and monitoring devices.
- Participate in patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Assist with procedures and diagnostic interventions as required.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional patient-care environment.
- Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and prioritize care appropriately in a high-acuity setting.
- Minimum 5 years of continuous PICU experience
- Must be dedicated PICU experience; floating experience does not qualify
- Cardiac/Pediatric Cardiac experience is required
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where care is provided
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Strong clinical experience caring for critically ill pediatric patients
