Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor)
Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety – California Department of Transportation.
SalaryMonthly: $10,854.00 – $13,493.00. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification unless a higher alternate range applies.
Location- Sacramento: 715 P Street, 15th Floor, CNRA Building, Sacramento, CA 95814

- Los Angeles: 3950 Paramount Blvd, Suite 210, Lakewood, CA 90712
- Lead a team of vegetation inspectors working near electrical infrastructure, reviewing and evaluating inspection reports and plans to assess utility performance against approved Wildfire Mitigation Plans (WMPs) and other regulatory requirements.
- Review guidance, policy, planning documents and legislative proposals related to vegetation management, wildfire science and environmental protection, and provide analysis and recommendations to the Environmental Program Manager.
- Identify trends from field inspections and data, and elevate findings with proposed recommendations to program leadership.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners, including utilities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct field inspections, analyze reported data, perform audits, publish findings and engage with utilities and interested parties.
- Occasional travel up to 10 % of the time is required; possession of a valid driver’s license is necessary for operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.

Desirable Qualifications- Knowledge of wildfire, vegetation management, forestry science and approaches to reducing wildfire risk.
- Experience performing inspections, documenting and communicating findings.
- Experience as a technical scientist collaborating with the public, external stakeholders and agency representatives.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present complex scientific findings to non‑scientific audiences through written reports and presentations.
- Ability to coordinate with individuals from different professional backgrounds.
- Experience with regulatory processes and compliance and enforcement of regulations.
- Experience working under tight timelines.
