Job Summary
Current Assignment:
The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) Police Department is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and security-focused Revenue Protection Guard to join our team. This role is responsible for safeguarding District cash, personnel, and assets during the collection, handling, and transportation of revenue, making situational decisions regarding cash protection and crew safety.
Step 1:
Minimum $47.89/hour – Step 5:
Maximum $57.46/hour (BPOA). Effective July 1, 2026, the salary will be Step 1: minimum $48.84/hour – Step 5: maximum $58.61/hour.
All current BART employees and qualified individuals who are not yet BART employees.
Report ToDeputy Police Chief or designee.
Days OffAs assigned. Must be willing to work shift work with varied days off and weekends.
DepartmentBART Police Department is a progressive agency focused on fair and impartial policing, bias-based policing, crisis intervention, cultural competence, and de‑escalation training. The mission is to ensure a safe transit system, reduce crime through highly visible police presence, and promote public confidence.
Responsibilities- Guard and protect District cash and assist Treasury personnel during transport, handling, collection, and stocking of cash.
- Carries and utilizes firearms and batons; wears protective gear and operates communication equipment.
- Operates armored vehicles, truck tractors with semi‑trailers, and passenger vans to assigned stations for cash handling and change supply.
- Protects cash handling operations and secures District revenues from internal and external threats.
- Maintains surveillance of station activities during cash collection, handling, and loading; drives crew vans and protects crews.
- Controls access to the Cash Handling Building; performs surveillance by video camera and videotape of cash handling activities, cash vault, and building security.
- In emergencies, assumes control to ensure safety of lives, cash, and property.
- Maintains contact by radio and telephone with District police dispatcher to report emergencies, suspicious activities, routes, and security of cash and facilities.
- Interacts with District employees, patrons, and the public.
- Assists in selection of transport routes and overrides others when security requires.
- Maintains inventory control of equipment and supplies, issues radios, cleans and maintains shotguns.
- Maintains custody of security‑controlled keys.
- Prepares and maintains logs of work locations, times in and out, hours, and machine problems.
- Checks operating conditions of trucks and vans and services gas, oil, water, tires, and lights.
- Prepares written reports.
- High school diploma, GED, or recognized equivalent.
- Experience in security and protective services and driving vehicles, tractor trailers, or other trucks is desirable.
- Security and Threat Management expertise.
- Strong crisis management and decision‑making skills under high‑pressure situations.
- Conflict resolution and de‑escalation skills for interactions with patrons and the public.
- Excellent communication skills for dispatch, police communications, and report writing.
- Proficiency in firearms use, batons, and defensive tactics, with approval to use firearms as required.
- Must be at least 21 years old at appointment.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Must obtain a Class A California Commercial driver’s license when feasible;
Class A drivers must pass an annual physical. - Must complete a firearms and arrest training certification within six months of employment.
- Must pass an 832 Penal Code (arrest control, firearms) course and qualify at quarterly department range programs.
- Must pass a background investigation, including psychiatric examination, fingerprinting, and polygraph.
- Physical strength and ability to subdue and apprehend persons attacking the treasury crew or vehicles.
- Ability to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
