This job announcement will be used to establish a pool of eligible candidates for vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.
The District is seeking a highly skilled, journey-level Electrician to join the Power and Mechanical team. This essential role is responsible for the integrity of the District's electrical infrastructure. You will provide technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, and modification of high-voltage traction power systems and facility-wide electrical networks.
As a specialist in the electrical trade, you will be the primary steward of the systems that power our revenue vehicles and support our essential facilities. This is a journey-level classification, offering a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to work on complex, large-scale industrial equipment that requires precision and a commitment to safety. Job focus includes:
- System Reliability:
Perform skilled installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of both traction power systems (high-voltage vehicle propulsion) and standard facility electrical systems. - Technical Modification:
Execute complex modifications and upgrades to electrical equipment to ensure long-term operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards. - Specialized Expertise:
Focus exclusively on electrical trade work, distinguishing this role from general maintenance through its high-voltage technical requirements and specialized scope. - Operational Readiness:
Ensure all District facilities remain fully operational by diagnosing and resolving electrical faults under general supervision.
The most qualified candidates for this position will have highly developed competencies in the following areas, which will be reinforced with related work experience and will be clearly articulated during the selection process:
- Performing preventive maintenance, testing and adjustment of various electrical systems, equipment and components required to power BART's rail vehicle systems
- Installing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying a wide variety of industrial systems and equipment such as 110 volt to 4180 volt systems, 1 KV to 34.5 KV controls, transformers, motors, motor starters and controllers
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing problems in a variety of electrical equipment
- Reading and interpreting diagrams, engineering drawings, manuals and schematics
- Working with high voltage industrial or plant equipment
- Knowledge of applicable code and regulations
