Mark Thomas is adding a SUE Technician to our subsurface utility team! The SUE Technician I is responsible for conducting subsurface utility location in the field using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locating equipment. The SUE Technician I will work with a SUE Technician III on a 2-person crew to perform field job duties.
More experienced SUE Technicians are also welcomed to apply!
RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists in using various utility locating techniques and equipment, such as electromagnetic locators and ground-penetrating radar (GPR), under direct supervision to identify and mark the horizontal position of utilities under the supervision of SUE Technician III.
- Supports and assists the SUE Technician III with the review of project plans, blueprints, and utility maps to understand the scope and location of underground utilities.
- Provide basic underground utility marking information to survey field crews under guidance of SUE Technician III.
- Completes assigned mark and locate tasks within timelines and budget constraints with supervision. May perform locating tasks as directed; assists by performing routine tasks (i.e. flagging, whiskers, etc.)
- Adheres to safety protocols and requirements as highlighted in the Company’s Injury & Illness Prevention Program to include the Code of Safety Practices; always ensures personal safety and prevents damage to existing utilities during the locating process.
- Participates in training activities to enhance skills in utility locating and field practices.
- Actively learns and applies QA/QC standards for marking and locating.
- Maintains vehicles and locating equipment in working order; immediately reports any equipment maintenance or malfunction to the Foreman.
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in utility locating techniques and equipment, under supervision or in a training capacity.
- Familiarity with utility systems and infrastructure preferred, with a willingness to expand knowledge in water, gas, electric, telecommunications, and sewer lines.
- Basic knowledge of utility marking and location.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely in the field; abides by Company IIPP & Code of Safety Practices.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and follow directions effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Physical capability to perform fieldwork and lift equipment as necessary; ability to physically move manhole covers of various sizes.
- Ability to travel regionally for days at a time.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain driver eligibility.
