IRC (International Rescue Committee) seeks a Caseworker to serve survivors of trafficking in Oakland as part of its Anti‑Trafficking program. This position is represented by the OPEIU union and governed by a collective bargaining agreement.
Job OverviewThe Caseworker provides trauma‑informed, comprehensive case management, connecting survivors with legal services, housing resources, public benefits, health providers, and psychosocial support. The role encourages survivor empowerment, maintains professional boundaries, and practices self‑care to address vicarious trauma.
Major Responsibilities- Provide trauma‑informed case management and referrals to help survivors feel safe, empowered, and stable.
- Conduct individualized initial assessments, safety planning, and orientation to services.
- Assist clients in accessing shelter, physical and mental health services, and legal resources to advance immigration status.
- Identify service barriers, advocate for higher‑quality and culturally appropriate services, and develop positive relationships with community stakeholders.
- Participate in outreach, technical assistance, and training for community‑based organizations, government, and law enforcement.
- Supervise and coordinate volunteers and interns to support service delivery and resource referrals.
- Maintain quality case notes, file management, and documentation of direct assistance requests (e.g., rent, utilities).
- Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Reports to:
Anti‑Trafficking Supervisor. - Collaborates internally with Anti‑Trafficking department members and other IRC departments such as Economic Empowerment, Safety and Wellness, Community Integration, and Immigration.
- Engages externally with legal providers, social services, health care providers, educational institutions, employment programs, anti‑trafficking task forces, consulates, law enforcement, and other community‑based organizations.
- Preferred:
Two years of relevant experience in social services, case management, or related fields. - Preferred educational background:
Undergraduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; significant experience may substitute education. - Compassionate understanding of survivors’ unique needs.
- Ability to maintain a positive, cooperative, professional demeanor with clients and partners.
- Skill in de‑escalating stressful situations in a trauma‑informed manner.
- Team‑oriented, multicultural work environment fit.
- Excellent oral and written communication and strong organizational skills.
- Spanish fluency required; culturally sensitive skills for underserved communities preferred.
- Proficiency with case‑file management and knowledge of Bay Area legal and public‑benefit systems preferred.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required.
Hybrid work schedule in a standard office environment; travel within the service delivery area is required.
CompensationHourly pay range: $26–$27 (US‑based candidates).
